Non-abelian statistics in the interference noise of the Moore--Read quantum Hall state

چکیده
We propose noise oscillation measurements in a double point contact, accessible with current technology, to seek for a signature of the nonabelian nature of the ν = 5/2 quantum Hall state. Calculating the voltage and temperature dependence of the current and noise oscillations, we predict the nonabelian nature to materialize through a multiplicity of the possible outcomes: two qualitatively different frequency dependences of the nonzero interference noise. Comparison between our predictions for the Moore–Read state with experiments on ν=5/2 will serve as a much needed test for the nature of the ν=5/2 quantum Hall state.

Detecting non-Abelian statistics in the nu = 5/2 fractional quantum hall state.
In this Letter we propose an interferometric experiment to detect non-Abelian quasiparticle statistics--one of the hallmark characteristics of the Moore-Read state expected to describe the observed fractional quantum Hall effect plateau at nu = 5/2. The implications for using this state for constructing a topologically protected qubit as has been recently proposed by Das Sarma et al. are also a...
متن کاملEdge tunneling and transport in non-abelian fractional quantum Hall systems
Several aspects of tunneling at the edge of a fractional quantum Hall (FQH) state are studied. Most examples are given for the non-abelian filling fraction ν = 5 2 Moore-Read Pfaffian state. For tunneling between opposite edges of an abelian fractional quantum Hall state at a quantum point contact, the perturbative calculation of tunneling current, conductance, and current noise, as a function ...
متن کاملNon-Abelian statistics of half-quantum vortices in p-wave superconductors.
Excitation spectrum of a half-quantum vortex in a p-wave superconductor contains a zero-energy Majorana fermion. This results in a degeneracy of the ground state of the system of several vortices. From the properties of the solutions to Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations in the vortex core we derive the non-Abelian statistics of vortices identical to that for the Moore-Read (Pfaffian) quantum Hall ...

We develop a general framework to (numerically) study adiabatic braiding of quasiholes in fractional quantum Hall systems. Specifically, we investigate the Moore-Read (MR) state at nu=1/2 filling factor, a known candidate for non-Abelian statistics, which appears to actually occur in nature. The non-Abelian statistics of MR quasiholes is demonstrated explicitly for the first time, confirming th...
متن کاملCondensing non-Abelian quasiparticles.
A most interesting feature of certain fractional quantum Hall states is that their quasiparticles obey non-Abelian fractional statistics. So far, candidate non-Abelian wave functions have been constructed from conformal blocks in cleverly chosen conformal field theories. In this work we present a hierarchy scheme by which we can construct daughter states by condensing non-Abelian quasiparticles...
